The Mansard Frame on Harwood Road SW6 4/18/2016
The frame, or others may say, the shell of the loft is the most essential skeleton of the build. It holds all the electrics, plumbing, insulation and protection from the elements. At Ash Island, we build the frame from a pine wood timber, back it with 100mm of insulation and then cover this over with a stud wall. Instead of plastering after, we use a tape and jointer who fills any uneven gaps and leaves a smooth finish for decoration. It is here where the loft really takes its form and the architectural and structural drawings come to life. This is week two...
